Sul Ross State University, founded in 1917, has been called “…possibly the most underrated little university west of the Mississippi.” Located in West Texas, SRSU boasts small class sizes, an appreciation of both fine arts and the sciences, and popular professional programs in a relaxed, friendly environment. The 647-acre main campus, located in Alpine, provides comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs. Additionally, three satellite campuses, collectively known as Rio Grande College, are situated in Del Rio, Uvalde and Eagle Pass. RGC offers junior, senior and graduate courses. Forty-five minutes from the nearest Wal-Mart, 2 ½ hours from the nearest mall: what draws students to Sul Ross State University? The answer is not in the university itself but in the staff, faculty and most importantly, in the student body. With an enrollment of about 2,000 students on the main campus in Alpine, class sizes are small, guaranteeing a much higher level of personal attention from instructors and the university's support staff. There's plenty for students to do in their free time: lots of student clubs and organizations, a thriving arts community and a strong athletic tradition for both men and women. There are many student and community projects and organizations to help any student become more involved. And the Academic Learning Center offers numerous academic support services including basic skills math, reading and writing courses; tutoring; seminars; developmental advising; the Honors Program; and programs designed to improve study skills and enhance critical thinking.
