UT Permian Basin, is an academic institution of The University of Texas System, is a growing and vibrant four-year university offering bachelors and masters degrees.
As the only four-year University for Odessa, Midland — and surrounding rural areas — enrollment is over 5,100, attracting students from over 179 Texas Counties, 34 states, and 28 countries. Dependent on the oil industry for many years, the local Chambers of Commerce are attracting diverse businesses to the area. In the past years, a flourishing retail boom brought in many restaurants, and shopping centers to Midland and Odessa. museums, theaters, a symphony orchestra, golf courses, a Texas League AA professional stadium, football stadiums, ice hockey, a polo club, an international airport, and other metropolitan attractions are all within minutes of the University. The semi-arid grassland climate averages 300 days of sunshine a year, boasts wide-open spaces and spectacular sunsets. Even better than the sunny climate is that positive “can-do” attitudes abound.
UT Permian Basin is a dynamic, growing campus dedicated to students and to their academic success. The University has 35 undergraduate and 19 graduate programs. The two newest programs, the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Bachelor of Music, opened in Fall 2013. The College of Business and Engineering is accredited in Business by AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and in Mechanical Engineering by ABET. We also hold national accreditation in art, social work, and education. With a world-class Performing Arts Center, a new Science and Technology Building, and excellent faculty and an active Student Life program UTPB is a great place to be.
UTPB's faculty is engaged in a wide range of research attracting millions of dollars in grants for programs in teacher certification, energy research, and groundbreaking work in many disciplines. Our business school is ranked in the top third of U.S. business schools, and earned accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) – International. We offer degrees in some of the fastest growing career fields such as education, criminal justice, computer science, petroleum engineering and information systems. We are members of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division-II. Sports include men's and women's soccer, cross country, swimming, tennis and basketball, as well as men's baseball, women's softball and volleyball.
