University of Houston Learning Outcomes

Every department at the University of Houston examines student learning outcomes in each of its degree programs. Learning goals have been set in each program, and the annual process measures student learning and ensures departments take appropriate steps to review and respond to the results.

We also put a high priority on the development of our students in terms of core objectives encompassing critical thinking skills, communication skills, empirical and quantitative skills, teamwork, personal responsibility, and social responsibility. University-wide assessments of student work in these areas (embedded in core curriculum courses) are conducted by interdepartmental faculty teams. The findings inform our internal decision-making, and help us to keep our focus on outcomes we consider essential for our students.
