The Rising STAR of Texas
Texas State University gives students the opportunity to thrive academically and personally. Situated in the vibrant and growing I-35 corridor between Austin and San Antonio, the campus combines the beauty of the Texas Hill Country with the opportunities and excitement of a major university.
The fifth-largest university in the state, with more than 35,000 students, Texas State offers undergraduate and graduate students a choice of 96 bachelor's, 86 master's and twelve doctoral degree programs in disciplines as diverse as geography, aquatic biology, electrical engineering and mass communication.
Texas State's student body is both talented and diverse. We attract students from virtually every county in Texas, as well as 50 states and 68 nations. The university also is ethnically diverse, with minorities making up more than 30 percent of the student body. Our freshmen retention and six-year graduation rates rank among the top institutions in the state.
Research and development expenditures at Texas State have more than tripled in the past five years. We now rank ninth among all Texas public institutions in restricted research expenditures, and have nationally recognized projects focusing on water resources, nanotechnology, geospatial intelligence, cancer, first-responder training and forensic anthropology.
Texas State's faculty also excels in the classroom. A total of 18 faculty members have been honored as Piper Professors for their superior teaching, one of the most prestigious honors a faculty member can receive in Texas.
Texas State provides many mechanisms of support touching every aspect of the students life including their academic, social, emotional and physical well being.
