The University of Memphis, founded in 1912, is a major metropolitan research university committed to excellence in education and service to the community. One of 45 Tennessee Board of Regents campuses, the U of M offers 15 bachelor’s degrees in more than 50 majors and 70 concentrations, master’s degrees in more than 45 subject areas, and doctoral degrees in 21 disciplines, as well as the juris doctorate (law) and specialist in education degrees. Its park-like suburban campus is home to approximately 20,000 students and 2,500 faculty and staff members. College life includes the serious and the fun; that’s where the Student Support Services and Student Life aspects of the University of Memphis come into play. Support Services helps students succeed in their academic endeavors. Curriculum advising, personal counseling, career placement, Adult and Commuter Student Services - these services and more are available to help students adjust to college life, achieve academic success, graduate, and become contributing members of society. Student Life provides the flip side - intramural sports, Greek life, recreational facilities, the University Center with its dining facilities, movies, offices for student groups, a 24-hour computer lab, mail services. All these things provide U of M students with numerous opportunities to relax and to refresh their bodies and their minds. Taken together, Student Life and Student Support Services help University of Memphis students grow as well-rounded individuals and as well-prepared college graduates.
