Francis Marion University is one of South Carolina's 13 state-assisted universities.  It prides itself on its beautiful campus, intimate academic settings and its long tradition providing students with a comprehensive liberal arts education.  The University offers Masters level degrees in Nursing, Business, Psychology, and Education and is fast becoming a state leader in the field of healthcare education.

FMU's intimate campus and small class sizes creates a collegial environment where students regularly develop deep relationships with professors and experience the kind of personalized attention that is only rarely available in today's fast-paced world of higher ed.  Students interact with faculty in a variety of ways, and faculty takes a keen interest in the progress of students, both during and after their education is complete.  Faculty members regularly assist students in finding experiential learning opportunities, such as internships, undergraduate research opportunities, travel both home and abroad, and exchange programs through FMU's various overseas partners.  All faculty members hold advanced degrees.  Eighty-three percent of the University's full-time faculty hold terminal degrees in their field.  Francis Marion University is accredited by the The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to award bachelor, master's, and specialist level degrees.

Living in the Patriots Community

Francis Marion University is located six miles east of downtown Florence, S.C.  The campus’ more than 400 acres are heavily wooded.  Native species are accompanied by thoughtful landscaping and planting choices that produce a sylvan atmosphere, noted for its charm and grace.  The campus offers students a safe and inviting learning environment.  The University has continued to update and add necessary facilities.  Recent additions include the Sparrow Athletic Complex, the Lee Nursing Building, the FMU Performing Arts Center, and the Health Sciences Complex (under construction).

Florence, S.C. is the economic and cultural capital of the Pee Dee region, an eight-county area along the eponymous river in northeastern South Carolina.  Created around a 19th century rail center, Florence remains a regional transportation hub.  Interstates and major national rail lines converge in Florence, making it an attractive location for industry and commerce.  More than a half dozen Fortune 500 companies have major manufacturing and/or warehouse presences in Florence, including Otis Elevator, Johnson Controls, GE, Honda, and Roche Pharmaceuticals.  It is a regional retail center for the region as well.  The Pee Dee area is on the edge of South Carolina’s Low Country, and is crisscrossed with scenic rivers and marshes.  It has long been noted a sportsman’s paradise, drawing outdoorsmen from across the country to hike, paddle, hunt, and fish its under spoiled wilds.
