Winthrop University engages in ongoing, systematic assessment of student learning at an institutional level, and within academic degree and student support programs. Winthrop uses a best-practices, multi-method approach to student-learning assessment that involves externally- and internally-developed assessment instruments, as well as direct- and indirect methods to assess knowledge, skills, and dispositions. Winthrop’s assessment initiatives are summarized in its Institutional Assessment Plan and Guide which is updated biennially. Assessment policies, practices, and procedures, and use of results by campus professionals to improve programs and learning, are subjected to external review by federal and state government agencies, regional accreditation through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACS COC), professional credentialing and licensing organizations, and discipline-specific accreditation or approval organizations. Winthrop’s current regional accreditation status is posted athttp://www.winthrop.edu/sacs/ as well as on the SACS COC web site. Winthrop’s accreditations are posted athttp://www.winthrop.edu/accountability/default.aspx?id=6870.
Post-graduation success examples are included in Winthrop’s annual State Accountability Report, posted at http://www.winthrop.edu/accountability/default.aspx?id=7996, and featured in Winthrop’s publications: the Winthrop Magazine, the Winthrop Update, and the Winthrop University Annual Report
