EXPLORE THIS COLLEGE PORTRAIT

With more than 60,000 alumni and 12,000 students, Lehman College serves the Bronx and our surrounding region as an intellectual, economic, and cultural center.

At his visit to Lehman College on May 4, 2015, President Barak Obama left us with these words, "This is why we are all here today. Because we believe in the idea that no matter who you are, no matter what you look like, no matter where you came from, no matter what your circumstances were, if you work hard, if you take responsibility, then America is a place where you can make something of your lives,”

Lehman College has entered a new era in its history as an institution of higher education. It is already known for its outstanding faculty, dedicated staff, superb library, art gallery, theaters, speech and hearing clinic, and athletic facilities.  The College has a new $70 milion USGB LEED Platinum Science Hall, phase one of a three phase science facility, featuring updated versatile classrooms, teaching and research labs, and instrumentation, as well as a rooftop tearcing and research greenhouse and environmentally sustainable technologies.  This invigorates faculty and student research as well as prepares Lehman students for science-based careers. Supported by the University's expanding technological resources, the College promotes creative teaching strategies, greater access to courses through online learning, off-campus access to library resources and enhanced student services. The new Multimedia Center stimulates technological innovation in all areas of communications and the arts for both the College and the region. Lehman College prepares students to live and work in the global community through new interdisciplinary programs, such as environmental studies and international business, along with study abroad and experiential learning opportunities. The College's geographic information systems and numerous partnerships with schools, hospitals, social service and governmental agencies, small businesses, major corporations, and cultural and scientific institutions contribute to the economic development of the region. Recognized for small classes, close interaction between students and faculty, a successful Teacher Academy and Honors College, and a caring and supportive environment, Lehman College will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary in 2018 as the college of choice in the region, committed to preparing students for graduate studies, professional careers, and lifelong learning.

Living in the Lehman Community

The Lehman College campus is a thriving, productive, and nurturing environment, where students benefit from numerous college sponsored support services, and network activities via Lehman's popular clubs and organizations. Lehman's support services include, among others, tutoring and academic support, career and counseling services,  and disability services. The college's Center for the Performing Arts and APEX provide quality entertainment, fitness, athletic and recreational activities.   Lehman's academic honor societies, clubs, media, and student government facilitate intellectual, social, and personal  development.

Our goal is to educate members of the Lehman campus community on the importance of responsible citizenship through new student orientation, community development programs, service efforts, practical application of knowledge, and an awareness of global issues impacting local communities.                         .                                                                                                                                                       LEHMAN L.I.F.E. Supports Service Opportunities  for students by creating awareness of need in communities around the world  and fostering action through volunteer work. Our main goal is to increase awareness of issues affecting humanity from our campus to the global society.  Students have traveled to Dominican Republic, New Orleans, Virginia Beach, Cincinnati, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Kenya to perform community service efforts and aid other communities in their own sustainability.
