Founded in 1930, Brooklyn College is considered to be the most academically rigorous among the senior colleges within the City University of New York system. With more than 125 programs in the arts and sciences, education, and business, the college’s faculty augments classroom learning with real-world experience by using the resources of New York City, as well as encouraging students to take advantage of internships and study abroad opportunities. Brooklyn College has been singled out for being one of the most diverse institutions in the country, with its more than 16,000 students representing the cultural, social and ethnic fabric of its home borough. The campus, which is frequently cited among the most beautiful in the country, is undergoing a major capital construction and renovation program, with more than $500 million allocated by New York State in capital funds. Brooklyn College is a student-centered campus. In the last several years, the college has begun to reinvent itself, forming five schools that draw top entrepreneurs, artists, and research scientists to our faculty and ensuring that students receive personalized counseling and career enhancements within the fields they wish to pursue.
