Student Learning is assessed at the class level, the program level, as well as the institutional level. Student Learning Outcomes have been developed for all degree programs and all classes. The engineering and engineering technology have established both Program Objectives and Program Learning outcomes. Student Learning competencies for license track programs conform with the international requirement of the Standards for Training, Certification and Watchkeeping (STCW) of the International Maritime Organization.
The Collegiate Learning Assessment (CLA) measures critical thinking, analytic reasoning, problem solving, and written communication using a performance task and an analytic writing task. The scores from the tasks are reported separately below.
The increase in learning on the performance task is at or near what would be expected at an institution testing students of similar academic abilities.
