The University of Alabama in Huntsville is a “very high research activity” institution in the new Carnegie classification, placing it among the top 73 public research universities in the nation, and U.S. News and World Report ranks UAHuntsville as a Tier 1 national university. The campus is the anchor tenant in Cummings Research Park, the second largest university research park in the United States and is located near Redstone Arsenal, the site for NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center and several major U.S. Army research laboratories. UAHuntsville prepares students for demanding positions in Engineering, the Sciences, Business, Nursing, and the Liberal Arts. Approximately 7,700 students currently attend the university; 6,000 are undergraduate students.
The University of Alabama in Huntsville provides activities outside the classroom such as intramural and intercollegiate sports, fraternities and sororities, choir and music ensembles and theater productions. The university has more than 96 clubs and organizations, including the World Issues Society, Circle K, the Society for Ancient Languages, the Association for Campus Entertainment, the Student Government Association and professionally oriented clubs and societies in almost every discipline. Greek life ranges from social activities to service projects for local and national charities. Six fraternities and five sororities are nationally recognized at UAHuntsville. Athletics are a highly charged blend of competitiveness and the ideal of the student-athlete. The university is home to 12 NCAA men’s and women’s sports programs. Students attending the campus come from more than 44 states and 82 countries.
